Can vegan diet be healthy? How to have a complete diet while being Vegan
In the latest months or years, most of the public has been educated about the accelerating destruction of our world based on unsustainable farming methods, pesticides to promote the growth of all the animal feed which is destroying and polluting the deep underground water systems, the incomprehensible cruelty caused to all the animals suffering.
We think we might have it harder while being quarantined at home? Think about being locked inside a tiny little dark cold cell, lying on hard wet concrete with never being able to see sunlight or even take a few steps or turn around (that is the terrible lives of many pigs around the world, and yes, in the US and Europe, too). Baby male chicks being hacked to death while still alive just because they were born with the wrong gender, male calves torn apart from their mothers only to be slaughtered while still babies, their mothers raped and having their children stolen on and on again until their bodies brake and they are slaughtered at a very early age (dairy cows are often slaughtered at the age of 4 as their body can not take the huge stress they are under their whole life even when their natural life span is about 20 years).

After hearing all this information many of us would like to change our behavior and adopt a more environmentally friendly, healthier, cheaper, cruelty-free diet and lifestyles but often ask yourself the question of how is it possible to achieve?

Can a vegan diet be healthy? How do I make sure I get all my essential nutrients, vitamins, proteins or calories? How can I track my macros? Will I go hungry on a vegan diet? Will I lack protein on a vegan diet? Is a vegan diet expensive? How to stay healthy on a vegan diet? Will I loose weight on a vegan diet? Is a vegan diet unhealthy? Is a vegan diet sustainable?

These and many more questions are often asked by many people who are considering a more cruelty-free, eco-friendly lifestyle as so many celebrities and role models have adopted a vegan or plant-based lifestyle and they have never looked better.

I too was asking many of these questions and apart the knowledge that a diet with little or no meat needs to be supplemented in B12 vitamins and the benefits of taking vitamin D (I have brown skin and live on the northern hemisphere so I would not get enough sun what my body needs, vitamin D2 is always vegan, D3 is made out of sheep wool and is not vegan, only lichen derived D3 is vegan).
I did not have much more information apart from this until I found the most amazing app called cronometer.  It comes in a desktop version (for computers), google play (for androids) version and App Store (apple, iPhone, iPad )version.

* There are no affiliate links in this blog post. All links are directed straight to the original and verified source.
This blog post is not sponsored and is created purely as I adore this app myself and want others to be able to take advantage of this amazing (in my personal opinion) app. You can see that the app is very highly rated by its many users on Google Play and App store.

The sign-up is free and you can start to use it immediately. You can select exactly what you strive for is bulking up, losing weight or maintaining. The overview is very easy and the whole experience is very intuitive.
As with any app of this kind, you will be asked to fill in a few questions about yourself and about your goals in order to know your metabolic rate and your recommended intake.

You can fully customize it as well based on your own targets (which I have not done myself yet as I feel and only need a brought idea of what I consume) as everybody has different goals and needs.

Here is a basic overview of my latest tracked day: The app goes more in-depth, I am only showing the basics for an overview. Please note that the RDA (recommended daily allowance will be different for anyone as the app will target it directly to you and your RDA will be created bespoke for you for free and based on what goals you want to achieve). I choose to maintain my body weight and the summary below is based on that.

* Note, I am aiming for quite a high protein content in my diet. I know of vegans who are reaching for just 50g (depends a lot also on your current weight) of proteins and are still satisfied. However, the higher protein content ensures that I am staying satisfied for longer as that helps me to stay away from mindless snacking.

The chronometer app has helped me in a large way of understanding my own eating habits. I had no idea how much ,junk, I was indulging myself in without even realizing it. I am still allowing myself to eat treats and unhealthy foods but now I am more aware of them and actually even enjoy them more than I used to before I as am fully aware of them and know that it is a treat, not a nutritional necessity.
The cronometer app has proven to be an amazing motivational tool as I am more motivated to eat better for my body and health.
Also, the app has thought me a lot about different types of protein (have you ever heard of Lysine, Threonine or Valine), or have you ever tracked you Phosphorus in your minerals or your Pyridoxine (B6) in your vitamins? This app focuses on all this and more.

* This is not a sponsored post, nor have I been in any shape or form in contact with anybody from the Cronometer team.
I am simply very impressed and thankful they have decided to share this with us for free and happy to spread the word.
This review is based on my own opinions only. I am not a trained dietician nor have I any education in that sphere.

My day consisted of these meals while being tracked:

Breakfast:
- coffee with oat milk and vegan protein powder
- multi-seed bread with avocado

Snack:

Dinner:
- miso soup with nori sheet and silken tofu
- water

    1. Yes, I was also concerned and thought that any app would be too hard to use and that I would not have the time to do it properly. Not with this cronometer app as o much is already preprepared for you and love how you can adjust it to the smallest detail.
Thank you for your comment and for stopping by :)

  4. This sounds like a great source for help. I've never been a big meat eater myself but I can't claim 100% vegetarian status either. I did learn that I'm a flexitarian though. I had a friend who was vegetarian and tried to move towards a more vegan lifestyle however had to adjust and incorporate seafood into her diet because of several health concerns. I can't help but wonder if this could have helped her along her journey? I'll definitely FYI her on this app, I'm also making a note of it too.

    1. Hello dear Sonia, thank you for your support and most well written comment.
Yes, I always thought it would be amazing with an app but I never thought how easy it would be with logging in all the details (which put me off from looking for it as I thought it did not existed) but this cronometer app has really proven a gem! Easy to log in your meals, so easy to adjust anything based on my own needs (calories, protein, vitamins, minerals, ...). A real keeper. I hope you and your friend will enjoy it too, :) You are a lovely friend to be thinking of her :)
I hope you have a most lovely rest of the day and that you are keeping safe.

    1. Hello Mica, thank you for your lovely comment.
Yes, the app has proven to be so amazing! It really does help to be informed (never before was I thinking about having enough of vitamin K for example as I always stuck to the basics), and also it is much easier to stay focused as when I log in some naughty foods I can see in the chart that the how really of an empty calorie they are and often choose something better yet satisfying :) Currently my sweet of choice has become a yummy nut butter with frozen strawberries. Easy, cheapish, always accessible, fast and yummy (I do not do well with chocolate so I can only have it as rare treats).
Sending my regards from another quiet home :)
