Why bamboo is a super plant which can help combat climate change (6 amazing benefits and more)

Benefits of bamboo and positives to fight climate change

Since I was a child I always felt a very close connection to nature and bamboo always had a very close place to my heart. At that time it was only in the form of decorative shrubs in my aunties garden which captivated me and since then I was a fan. Advocating to my parents to have it in our garden, too (bamboo is not native to our continent) and it continued for me to have bamboos in my room as well and made an amazing gift for my friends as well (in my opinion).
Little did I know how this humble plant has the potential to revolutionize many different productions from the obvious clothing to furniture and even as a good and sustainable (if done in the correct way) substitute to plastic.
Bamboo has few extremely positive properties and that is that it can grow extremely fast compared to any different material but also that bamboo does not require any agricultural chemicals to thrive! That is absolutely amazing news for anyone concerned about the health of our planet but also our own as pesticides can really damage our ecosystem so much and make lasting damages for years or decades later (for example pesticides have caused many deaths to animals, premature births to animals but also killed bees, polluted our food chain and also destroyed the pristine underground waters.
Compared with cotton (which is also one of the better solutions but compared to bamboo it feels extremely outdated and prehistoric) which is one of the most sprayed crops in the world and drains the soil of nutrients very quickly.
Benefits of bamboo:
1. It is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet. Bamboo grows extremely fast. You can harvest a tree-sized bamboo withing 1-5 years (trees grow for 10s of years until they reach a considerable size).
2. The whole bamboo can be used for a wide variety of products (softest clothes, furniture, paper, flooring (nice and warm feeling), water purifiers, building materials,...).
3. It is a very hardy plant and can grow in areas where other plants for harvesting can not. The roots are never harvested and are left in the soil which provides a lot of stability to the ground and can help prevent floodings, erosions and helps retain moisture in the soil.
4. Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide and releases a lot of oxygen.
5. No pesticides or herbicides needed! Can easily be grown organically.
6. May provide job opportunities in less economically stable countries.
Bamboo is really amazing, you should try it (in my opinion) when you need a product (not just buy it for the sake of buying/testing it). It makes the softest bedding, the coziest socks, it feels extremely luxurious on the skin yet it is much better for the planet (pre-woned is however always better). make sure it is always grown sustainably as that is important no matter what you are buying. Also never buy more that you really need. If you already have a nice bedding set you do not need a bamboo one, yet :).
Interesting fact: bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet with a record
of 91 cm (35 inches) a day!

    1. Yes, it really is a super plant! I think if more bamboo was grown in the right climate and where it is already native it could do much good for the nature. I think that organic bamboo washable cotton pads should be a staple product of every woman if she has not up-cyceled them from old clothes as up-cyckeling is always recommended.
